2. Grace and peace be to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3. We are duty-bound to thank God always for you, brethren, even as it is fitting, because your faith is increasing abundantly, and the love of each one of you is abounding toward one another;
4. So that we ourselves are boasting about you in the churches of God because of your endurance and faith in all your persecutions, and in the tribulations that you are bearing.
5. Your faith and endurance are a visible testimony of the righteous judgment of God, so that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.
6. Since it is righteous with God to recompense tribulation to those who are persecuting you;
7. And to you, who are persecuted, rest with us, at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with His mighty angels,
8. Dealing out vengeance with flaming fire upon those who do not know God, and those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ;

1. 保羅、西拉和提摩太寫信給帖撒羅尼迦教會，這教會是屬於神，我們的父神和主耶穌基督裡的：

2. 願神的恩惠與平安從神，我們的父和主耶穌基督，歸與你們。

3. 我因有感虧欠，常常為你們感謝神，弟兄，這是我們該做的事，是因你們與日益增長的信心和愛給我的安慰。

4. 在神的眾教會面前，都因著你們感到光榮。那是你們在逼迫中所展現出的忍耐和信心。

5. 這信心和忍耐，正是可見的明證，說明神的判定是何等公義，值你們所受的苦說明配得神的國，

6. 神既是公義，會以苦難去報應那些逼迫你們的人。

7. 對於你們，被逼迫的，會在主耶穌和祂大能的天使從天上揭示真相的時候，一起得到解脫，

8. 在那個時候，有烈火報應，那些不認識神的，和那些不聽從主耶穌基督所傳福音的那些人。

9. 這些人會受永被燒毀的懲罰，就在主和祂大能的榮耀前，

10. 就在祂的聖徒前，得到當得的榮耀，所有在場相信神的人都感到欽羡（就明白我們現今所作的是何等真確）。

這是第二封信，有說這信是在前書後幾個月後發出，大約是在第二次宣教旅程當中。似乎在帖撒羅尼迦的會眾當中，顯然在讀完了前書後發生，什麼問題引起？大多說是因為末世的問題。末世什麼時候到，那是無人能曉得，是要靠個人對現世的事，用自己信仰的精神和原則，以此作為比對，看情況發展對信仰的精神和原則，背離的嚴重程度和密度決定，相信可以自測，按挪亞危機指數 (末世只剩他一家人，也許是你和你一家都得救的依據) 去量度，對當時只有你一個人仍在堅持，就是真正的末世了。什麼天氣驟變，烽煙四起，人心變得極壞，都是指末世的先兆，所以現今是末世。

保羅在帖前談及的末世，不是說時間，而是說人的表現。保羅沒有對不信的人說，也沒有對利用信仰的人說，是對小信的人說。

信神的人，從保羅寫信給不同會眾，當時也許沒有教會，是聚會點 (倪析聲弟兄喜歡用這詞)，在教會問題上，例如處理實務就是要不要守割禮，又如信守人與人關係的原則，像以耐心和信心去對待小信的人…等，都是以自己的領受去詮釋。問題是他的詮釋明顯不被猶太人接納，保羅在寫這13封信的時候，一直在末世等候中被逼迫，要到羅馬大法院，讓大法院的元老去栽決。

所以信中提及的問題，不是今日的信眾所關心，這問題在華人圈子很少提及，對他們而言，似乎不重要。對當時的保羅，確實因為擔心，而作出回能，是人之常情，可以理解。但保羅回應的重點是在末世還是人該用什麼心態去面對末世？相信是後者。

保羅在信開首，當中之言是表達對帖撒羅尼迦信眾的忍耐和信心，稱讚不已。這信心和忍耐是如何去理解？

帖撒羅尼迦信眾的忍耐和信心之所以那麼重要，緣來是出於受到了逼迫時，每個人去面對時一份內心的情操。它表現出不是去對抗，不是去行惡等人常有的反應，這信心和忍耐，是從相信神而來。如果以當時信眾的回應態度，比對今日教會，很容易被人去挑撥，一挑就出火，那是耐心和信心不足的表達。保羅因為他們這樣的回應，讓事件不會變大，變得難以處理。為他們的信心和忍耐，不住禱各又不住去感謝。

保羅在此，將逼迫(當時是猶太人加之他們身上)，是看作末世的先兆，是不是耶穌說的那個末世的先兆？當中有民打民，是不是這個意思？當時時末世，今日更是，大家說說該持怎樣的心態去面對，一起談一起進步。
