8. In the same way also, the deacons who serve must be serious-minded, not hypocritical, not given to much wine, not greedy for selfish gain;
9. Holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.
10. And let those who meet the qualifications also be proved first; then let them be appointed to serve, if they are found to be blameless.
11. In the same way also, their wives must be serious-minded, not slanderers, sober and faithful in all things.
12. Let the deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own households well.
13. For those who have served well acquire for themselves a good standing and much confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
14. These things I am writing to you, hoping to come to you shortly;
15. But if I should delay, you have these things in writing, so that you may know how one is obligated to conduct oneself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
16. And undeniably, great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, was justified in the Spirit, was seen by angels, was proclaimed among the Gentiles, was believed on in the world, was received up in glory. (A Faithful Version)

8. 以同樣的原則，作為執事的，是一位受尊重的，不虛偽，不貪酒，不為利是圖；

9. 以純淬的良知，持守對這奧秘的信心。

10. 有符合這些條件的，要先被檢正，是無從指責，才能指派事奉的崗位。

11. 同樣地，若是已婚的，妻子也是一位受敬重的，不說三道四，處事溫和明理，事事忠心。

12. 他是一位妻子的丈夫，有能力將家庭的子女和事務妥善處理。

13. 要求於他們的，是不受責備的事奉，看得出對基督耶穌是充滿信心。

14. 我原希望很快就到你那處，現在寫這些給你，

15. 是萬一不能到你那裡，有了這些寫下來的，是要讓你明白，如何負起這份義務，在神的家中代管。那處是永生神的教會，是真理的柱石和根基，。

16. 這事奉是值得，因這奧秘是值得被尊重和偉大的。神以肉身顯現，在聖靈中被稱義，天使可以作證，又被傳到外邦，為世人相信，被認為是可接納的。

追段說話是對提摩太指明一位事奉，當教會事務的執事而言，他該有的心態和承擔這職份的條件。

這條件的重要，在保羅的觀點，是因為負有正確表達信仰是什麼這樣的見證作用。只有人持守著，教會才能正常的表達神對人那份心意。當然這是保羅的心願，事實是很難去執行。緣因也明題，在神創造人的時候，當給人自由，人自己有就按各自需要，去選擇適合自己增進的方式和手段。而這種自由的選擇，有時不會按理性，而是按當時情感的需要。就以該隱和亞伯為例，這第一宗不和諧事件的出現，神沒有干預也不去執法，這是人自己的事，人要經一事長一智，繼而懂得自我約制。

相信提摩太是有這樣自知知明的人，這番道理對他而言是合適。

今日看到這份關懷之言，有幾多人能領受當中的道理，從而約制是自己，不是別人，畢竟是小數。大多數的表達，是以此為準則，去作為選人的條件，並不包括自己在內。這是今非昔比年代，不是沒有是少有。這個人有沒有這樣的覺醒，看如何辨事就可分曉。

這看似很難的事，對神有信心，就懂知足和平實的可貴之處。
