1. Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the knowledge of the truth that is according to godliness;
2. In the hope of eternal life, which God Who cannot lie promised before the ages of time,
3. But revealed in its own set time in the proclamation of His Word, with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior;
4. To Titus, a true son according to our common faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.
5. For this cause I left you in Crete, so that you might set in order the things that needed to be done, and might ordain elders in every city, as I commanded you:
6. If any man be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children, not accused of debauchery or rebellion.
7. For it is obligatory that as God’s steward an overseer be blameless, not selfwilled, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not a bully, not greedy for material gain;
8. But hospitable, a lover of good, soundminded, just, holy, self-controlled,
9. Holding steadfastly to the faithful word, according to the teachings of Jesus Christ, so that he may be able both to encourage with sound doctrine and to convict those who are gainsayers. (A Faithful Version)

1. 我保羅，是神的僕人，同是耶穌基督的使徒，依循被揀選時的信心和對道理的認知，一直以敬虔的態度去面對。

2. 存在一份永恆的生命的盼望，是那位不說謊話的父神，在萬古之前所作出的應許而來，

3. 這承諾會在祂定下的時間內，用自己的說話去證明。而我是按神，我的救主所吩咐而為。

4. 提多啊！用我們共同的信念作基礎，你是我的兒子，是藉父神的恩典、憐恤和平安，以及主耶穌基督我們的救主而來。

5. 正因有此關係，我留你在克里特島，就是讓你照我吩咐，去完成一些安排，在各處去按立長老。

6. 被按立的人要求在行為上沒有任何過失，是一個妻子的丈夫，孩子表現誠實，沒有負面的行為或是反叛傾向的。

7. 這人身為神的管家和監督，要無可指責，有些條件是必須，如：不任性、不暴躁、不酗酒、不欺負人、不貪圖物質的好處。

8. 這人能待人以誠，嚮往美好的事物，頭腦清醒或者心智健全，處事公正，自身廉潔，懂得自制，

9. 對耶穌基督的道理，有堅定的立場，以便能用純正的教導鼓勵人，又能對說反話的作出指正。

保羅給提多的稱呼，跟提摩太被稱為兒子有點不同，他是在同樣相信基督的前題，是保羅在福音中表現出明確的領受，對神的心意有理解，能作為教導的兒子。而自己也道明他們這身份是在一個基礎的相同信念中產生，有一種對福音的承傳和延續的關係。為此，這兒子是保羅了解，他在個人的能力和承擔使命是可以託付的一位。

保羅是派提多去鞏固當時的教會，似乎就是今日教會選拔長執的一個基本原則的指標。

這個人被保羅要求的原則，可以在管理層面上作為準則，為教會承擔使命作為基準，這準則似乎也是個人要有的標準，作為對信神的認識是否到位的容觀條件。

若是單身：無可指責，有些條件是必須，如：不任性、不暴躁、不酗酒、不欺負人、不貪圖物質的好處。這人能待人以誠，嚮往美好的事物，頭腦清醒或者心智健全，處事公正，自身廉潔，懂得自制，對耶穌基督的教導，有堅定的立場，以便他能用純正的教導鼓勵人，又能對說反話的作出指正。(v.7-9)

若是已婚：再加是一個妻子的丈夫，孩子表現誠實，沒有負面的行為或是反叛傾向的。

看來這個所謂標準，在教會作為承傳福音的責任，是有個人的見證更為重要。

這個標準在當時是有環境因素考慮。標準是應對當時的外邦人的處境釐訂，是因為那個處境沒有現今的神學訓練。因此，個人對信仰的認識是反映在行為上，那是當時保羅選執事的準標釐定的原則。因此，在今日神學院多得很的情況下，就有可能增加多一點條件。

時移勢易，今日的標準似乎有點不一樣，因為管事和教導分家了。
