2. 我曉得你做過什麼事，也知道你是何等勤勞，以及你的忍耐。你不能容忍作惡的，也測試過那自稱為使徒，事實上不是，因為看出他們在說謊。

3. 對這些事，你付出很多忍耐，為我的名一直地在堅持，也沒有讓我為此憂心。

4. 有一件例外，為之憂心的，是掉棄了那起初的愛。

5. 因此，若知道是從那處失落，就從那處起來改過，重新站立，若不這樣，我很快會把你的燈臺挪去。

https://www.the-saltoftheearth.com/nicolaitans/?lang=zh-tw 選擇這個解釋是因為較為中肯，用詞似乎少一點激進。當中有一句意思，是信神的人是透過對觀念或者精神的改變去事奉，而尼哥拉一党是以血氣或者肉體的需要，以此利己。它指出了這種入生觀不同的重點所在，應用在這處的描述，恰到好處。

這段描述似乎是將一個觀念用一個人物為代表描述，手拿七星劍(劍上七星似乎是有儆惕的意思)的是那位白衣人，看來是描述耶穌。而七個金燈檯就是七處信眾聚集的地方，是今日稱為教會。而耶穌基督指示的對象，是教會當中的人。是教會當中什麼人？

從內容的描述，那是起初有信心和愛心的，只是後來掉棄了，可能是一個人也可以指一群有這樣想法的人。這一個或者一群人：掉棄了那起初的愛 (v.4)。從觀念上去理解，這些人是因為後來，也許是有了位置，或為了位置引發了私慾(肉身的需要，例如名或利)萌生，就放棄了起初的愛心 (保羅常提起人失掉的信心，都是從私慾引起)。

不錯，人會犯錯，神相信人明白之後，也能改過。回轉過來的，那是真正的生命，是神起初創造的，這生命神看著，說：好。(v.7)
