47. And Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

49. 拿但業好奇地問:你是如何認識我?耶穌回應:腓力找你時,當時你在無花果樹下,我就看見你了。

50. 拿但業回答說:拉比,你真是神的兒子,是以色列的王者。

51. 耶穌回應:只因為我告訴你:見你在無花果樹下,你就相信?那麼,你將來看到的事,會比今日看到的更為大。

52. 耶穌繼續說:我實實在在告訴你們,往後會看到天門大開,看到使者,從人子的身上,進去又出來。

這段記載很詳細,記錄了耶穌出現當有的現象:有人相信耶穌有人傳講耶穌。(v.52)

約翰似乎是不知道誰是耶穌。從記述事件發生的過程,是耶穌到來,去動去接受水禮,並且說明水禮的真正意義。

這處用水禮,最大可能是在河邊舉行,它本身不是必然是洗或浸,也許是二者都可以,因為不在形式而是當中的意義。在31-34節的描述是耶穌主動說明接受水禮,是表明接受水禮是那人主導,是一種心明大義,表明心志的舉動。接受的人當下心靈就敞開,聖靈像鴿子的降下,顯明耶穌就是神的兒子。

當時有接受了水禮的安得烈和其他一位不知是誰再沒有記載 (。二人連約翰看到聖靈降臨在耶穌身上,明白他是神的兒子,便自發去跟隨。只有記載德烈與耶穌相處十個小時之後,回家跟兄弟西門談起這事,並邀他去見耶穌(v.43)。可見這二兄弟早有所聞,而且有心尋求,從耶穌對他說的話可以印證,給他改名叫磯法,後來被稱為教會的基礎:遇挫退縮卻依舊堅持。

當時城中有稱腓力的,與安得烈和彼得是同城的,意思是他們是認識的。腓力似乎是受了二兄弟的影響,就找他的好友拿但業,拿但業一聽有關於耶穌,說:耶穌是出身拿撒勒,不會是好東西吧?腓力就叫他親自去看看才作結論。

拿但業與耶穌相遇,耶穌劈頭的一句便說:你是那剛剛坐在無花果樹下的。他就相信。耶穌對這人說,將會看到更大事會發生,是有信心的人才看到。似乎也說明一點,就是什麼時候,人的信心決定能看得多遠。

約翰說這更大的事是與人子有關,人子就是耶穌,52節似乎不是一般直敘可以理解,它有一個含義,可以進耶穌的身又可以從耶穌的身離開。那只有一事,就是領受耶穌的道,又傳揚耶穌的道,世界會因為耶穌的道,它是世界的光,從黑暗中改變,當然是件大事,當日是時候未到。
