22. After these things, Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea; and there He stayed with them and was baptizing.
23. And John was also baptizing in Aenon, near Salim because there was much water there; and the people were coming and were being baptized,
24. For John had not yet been cast into prison.
25. Then there arose a question between the disciples of John and some of the Jews about purification.
26. And they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, He Who was with you beyond Jordan, to Whom you have borne witness, behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him.”
27. John answered and said, “No one is able to receive anything unless it has been given to him from heaven.
28. You yourselves bear witness to me that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but that I am sent before Him.
29. The one who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands by and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the voice of the bridegroom; in this then, my joy has been fulfilled.
30. It is ordained that He increase, and that I decrease.
31. He Who comes from above is above all. The one who is of the earth is earthly, and speaks of the earth. He Who comes from heaven is above all;
32. And what He has seen and heard, this is what He testifies; but no one receives His testimony.
33. The one who has received His testimony has set his seal that God is true;
34. For He Whom God has sent speaks the words of God; and God gives not the Spirit by measure unto Him.
35. The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand.
36. The one who believes in the Son has everlasting life; but the one who does not obey the Son shall not see life, for the wrath of God remains on him.” (A Faithful Version)

22. 發生那些事以後,耶穌和他的門徒去到猶太地,一起在這地區,為信的人施行水禮。

23. 約翰就在靠近撒冷的哀嫩施行水禮,因為那裡水多,受許多人的喜歡。

24. 約翰這時還未被監禁。

25. 當時有問題出現,就在約翰的門徒和一些猶太人之間發生,是有不同人施行水禮。

26. 一起在約翰面前,說:有位拉比,就是與你一起,現在就在約旦河對岸,是你認識的,也在施行水禮,也有許多到他那邊。

27. 約翰回應:若這人領受的不是從天上來,就算行了水禮都得不到什麼。

28. 你們自己就可以作證,我曾說過:我不是基督,我是先頭卒。

29. 新郎他擁有的是新娘。新郎旁邊的叫伴郎,是聽差遣的,新郎開心,伴郎就會大聲歡呼。我喜樂的源頭就是這樣。

30. 這是必然的現象,耶穌興旺時,我必衰微。

31. 他是從上而來,就在眾人之上。若是屬在地,是屬乎塵世,談的是塵世的事。屬天的,談的是屬天的事。

32. 屬天看到及聽到的,都一五一十的見證出來,可惜沒有人領受他作的見證。

33. 若能接受這見證的,就印證了神是何等真實的。

34. 神差來的,是講解神的道,不是用來作屬靈的挑剔之用。

35. 父愛子,便將一切交他手中。

36. 若是信人子,就能得著永恆的生命。不信的,得不著這生命,更招來神的怒氣。

這處描述是約翰與耶穌分道,他的跟隨者與猶太人之間,在同一處河道同時施行水禮,似乎是在問那個水禮才是有效及正確?這個稱為拉比不是指耶穌,而是猶太人的師父。約翰的回應:若這人領受的不是從天上來,就算行了水禮都得不到什麼 (v.27)。那麼這位是耶穌嗎?當然是。

約翰解釋同是水禮,一種是人為,是守著儀式不是守著屬天或說屬靈的真正意義。它是加入一個團體的儀式,是歸於這個團體,服役於這個團體的規定,為這人個團體盡自己的本份。屬天就不同於屬地的水禮,V.31說屬天有不同:他是從上而來,就在眾人之上。若是屬在地,是屬乎塵世,談的是塵世的事。屬天的,談的是屬天的事。似乎是說受耶穌展示的水禮,是由水,就是悔改心態的外顯。而靈,是就是開通天上地下的渠道,讓光除去黑暗,這是屬天的情況。屬天的就不屬於任何一個團體,單單屬主。當中產生的形式就不是條例,而是屬靈的敏悟,體貼神不是體貼任何人。由此引申出許多個人的反應,保羅稱之為靈巧+純良的緣因。

第36節:若是信人子,就能得著永恆的生命。不信的,得不著這生命,更換來神的怒氣。這不是恐嚇的言詞,而是現實的反照,說的是這等行為是離開神創造是的心意,那是自屬死路,這死路不是神安排,是人自找,卻可以看成是神的怒氣。事實神從來沒有發過怒氣,要發的怒氣,都是人自己對不滿事情的描述。
