10. For this reason, the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath day. It is not lawful for you to take up your bedroll.”
11. He answered them, “The One Who made me whole said to me, ‘Take up your bedroll and walk.’ ”
12. Then they asked him, “Who is the One Who said to you, ‘Take up your bedroll and walk’? ”
13. But the man who had been healed did not know Who it was, for Jesus had moved away, and a crowd was in the place.
14. After these things, Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you have been made whole. Sin no more, so that something worse does not happen to you.”
15. The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus Who had made him whole.
16. And for this cause, the Jews persecuted Jesus and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on a Sabbath.
17. But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I work.”
18. So then, on account of this saying, the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, not only because He had loosed the Sabbath, (see explanation) but also because He had called God His own Father, making Himself equal with God. (A Faithful Version)

10. 這事發生在安息日，猶太人問那被醫好的人：今天是安息日，按規矩是不能拿床。

11. 被醫好的回應：是那使我痊癒的，叫我拿起床，可以離開。

12. 這些人又問他：對你說，拿起你的床，這人是誰？

13. 被醫好那人不知道，當時有大堆人，耶穌已經離開了。

14. 過了不久，耶穌在殿裡碰見他，就問他：看來，已經完全恢復過來了。勸說他不要再做錯事，就不會有更不幸的事發生。

15. 這人隨後去告訴猶太人，讓他完全康復那個人叫耶穌。

16. 就是因為破壞了安息日的規矩，對耶穌起了迫害之意，更有要殺害的心。

17. 對這些迫害，耶穌的回應：我父一直做的事，我是會繼續。

18. 耶穌這樣的回應，讓猶太人越發要除掉他，不單是破壞安息日的規矩，更嚴重的是罔稱神為他的父，將自己與神平等。

約翰這段記錄很重要，他指出猶太人迫害甚至想除去耶穌的理由：破壞了他們訂下的規矩。他們有一個很強，看似理由十足的說法，是耶穌以自己與神同等。這處是指耶穌潛奪神的名份，是大罪，有足夠理由去執法。

保羅在給腓立比教會，就為此作出過辨解：6 他本來有　神的形象，卻不堅持自己與　神平等的地位，7 反而倒空自己，取了奴僕的形象，成為人的樣式；8 既然有人的樣子，就自甘卑微，順服至死，而且死在十字架上。(新譯本)

這是二種對耶穌不同的觀點。為什麼有這樣不同的差異？

這現象不單在那個時代的猶太人當中出現，即使是現在也是。究其緣由，都不是大問題，而是習慣了。當中有種因素，一直是人要生存的問題：要有所依靠。這個依靠是因為人有種感覺，生活不容易，有一位強者，有一種制度，有一種福利，若是人對之有信心，那就全心順服，以致於死。這種心情，若從聖經去理解，它是出現在出埃及之後，猶太人在長時期建立起來的信念，他們要王。只要這王能給他們強有力的保護，就願以三代人為代價付出。

當時的猶太人都身處亂世。按他們的歷史，神與祂的僕人，每個時代都在提點，為何都感覺不到？當時猶太人的領袖，他們也許非常擔心，耶穌是分拆他們的團結。也許這想法正正是猶太人不能接受的緣由。

這處涉及神在亂世中，對信的人那份保守，會是怎樣？按今日的以色列情況，猶太人是分散，卻又集中，這民族沒有滅亡，而且擴散到非猶太人，例如美國的川普，那又是對現今猶太人另一種祝福。

基督信仰也許不應在解釋上只停留在遠古那個時代。今日回看的時候，神仍在看顧猶太人，神始終保持祂的承諾，以不同的形式出現，因祂活著。
