25. Then some of those from Jerusalem said, “Is not this the One Whom they seek to kill?
26. But look, He is speaking publicly, and they are saying nothing to Him. Can it be that the authorities have recognized that this Man truly is the Christ?
27. Now this man, we know where He comes from. But the Christ, whenever He may appear, no one knows where He comes from.”
28. Then Jesus spoke out, teaching in the temple and saying, “You know Me, and you also know where I come from; yet I have not come of Myself; but He Who sent Me is true, Whom you do not know.
29. But I know Him because I am from Him, and He sent Me.”
30. Because of this saying, they were looking for a way to take Him; but no one laid a hand on Him because His time had not yet come.
31. Then many of the people believed in Him, saying, “When the Christ comes, will He do more miracles than those that this Man has done?”
32. The Pharisees heard the crowds debating these things about Him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to arrest Him.
33. Then Jesus said to them, “I am with you yet a little while, and then I go to Him Who sent Me.
34. You shall seek Me, but shall not find Me; and where I am going, you are not able to come.”
35. Therefore, the Jews said among themselves, “Where is He about to go, that we shall not find Him? Is He about to go to the Diaspora among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?
36. What is this saying that He said, ‘You shall seek Me, but shall not find Me’; and, ‘Where I am going, you are not able to come’? ” (A Faithful Version)

25. 當中有住在耶路撒冷的說：不是有人想要殺他嗎？

26. 他居然可以在大庭廣眾說話，針對的人沒有一個出來對質，難道承認他是基督？

27. 這個人，我們知道他是誰。但說他是基督，就不知從什麼時候開始，似乎沒有人知道。

28. 這時，耶穌正在殿裡作教導，說：眾位都認識我，知我是誰。我是被差來不是自己要來，那差我來的，真的，是你們不認識。

29. 我卻認識，因我是從他那處來，是被差來。

30. 只因話了這番話，就想盡法子去捉拿他，但沒有人出手，只為時候未到。

31. 倒是這樣，令許多人相信，都說：真有一位基督到來，他行的奇事神蹟，誰能比這人更多嗎？

32. 法利賽人聽眾人如此這般議論耶穌的事，祭司長和法利賽人就定意打發人去捉耶穌。

33. 耶穌對聽眾說：我與你們還有一點相處的時間，之後，會回到那差我來的身邊。

34. 到時若想找我，再也找不到。我去的地方，你們暫時無法去。

35. 猶太人就議論：這人究竟去哪裡，是我們找不著的？難道他要到那些分散的希臘人，在他們當中傳道？

36. 耶穌說這話，意思是有人想找他，會找不著，他到的地方，人不能去。

這段對話不容易理解，其一是當中有約翰作為第三者的描述，也有內容的指涉不是現在的事，是將來的事。就算是現在的事，它有將來的意義，例如我是被差來，我認識差我來的。又或者我去的地方，你們不能去。都蘊含更深的意義。

耶穌說的話不是人人都會相信，那是正常不過的事。

可是猶太人信神，只因耶穌直接指出他們信仰中謬誤，如在安息日行有需要的好事，就引來殺機。當中的原因不複雜，破壞傳統的守則和當權者的威信，這是有關生存的關係。他們的糧是從地上獲得，吃了仍舊會死。

更為重要的是，這種態度有普遍性，當日的猶太人如此，今日的獨裁政權都有這種情況出現。政權和處事的手法，它是中性，是按當權者的心態可以是為大眾也可以是為自己。為人人和為自己，處理的時候就有很大的差別，因吃的糧不同，吃地上和天上，這不同的糧有不同的後果，前者會死後者得生。

這段經文有另一個重要的觀念，你身邊的人，很熟識卻不認識你。認識耶穌的人，對他是誰很清楚，就是不清楚何時有這種改變 (v.27)，也不接受。他們看到的是這個人，沒有聽清楚他說的話。這是個很普遍的現象，那時的和今日或者是來日的，都會不斷重覆發生。這是誤解而來的怒氣，產生仇視的禍根 (心清的人不會)，因為不聽或聽不明，也不去了解，就按情慾去辦，按肉體做事，會死人。

那些猶太人的祭司，就是這種反應，因此想殺人。當人起了殺機，又有權勢，耶穌不去估量都知有什麼結果，只是總有日要到。耶穌說有人想找他，找不著，他到的地方，人不能去 (v.36) 是約翰對說話的了解，它的意思是耶穌有死亡的威脅，約翰作為旁觀者然明白。這種說明是給後來讀書卷的人。

今日的信眾，你會如何選擇？學耶穌直斥其非？耶穌實在沒有指責他們，只將事實說明而已。是這些猶太人祭司心虛，也不明白耶穌無權無勢，是個起不了風浪的人。若在今日，信眾也許要看是誰，關係到什麼程度而定，才採取什麼方法，可以強硬一點指正、可以溫柔規勸、或者置之不理。耶穌自說自話都可以引起殺機，可是他卻明鏡似的，了解這些人是可等害怕。

對什麼人說什麼話，神會給人智慧，因為神與你同在，祂活著。
