37. Now in the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and called out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38. The one who believes in Me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” 39. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, which those who believed in Him would soon receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given because Jesus was not yet glorified. 40. Now after hearing these words, many of the people said, “This is truly the Prophet.” 41. Others said, “This is the Christ.” But others said, “Does the Christ then come out of Galilee? 42. Does not the scripture say that the Christ comes from the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the town where David was?” 43. Therefore, a division arose among the people because of Him. 44. Now some of them desired to take Him, but no one laid hands on Him. 45. As a result, when the officers came to the chief priests and the Pharisees, they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?” 46. The officers answered, “Never has a man spoken like this man.” 47. Then the Pharisees answered them, “Are you also being deceived? 48. Has even one of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in Him? 49. But these people who do not know the law are accursed.” 50. Then Nicodemus (being one of them, the one who came to Him by night) said to them, 51. “Does our law judge any man without first hearing from him in person, and knowing what he does?” 52. They answered and said to him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search and see, for no prophet has ever come out of Galilee.” 53. And each one went to his house. (A Faithful Version)
37. 在這個重要節期的尾段,耶穌站出來並高聲說:人若渴,可以到我這裡來。
38. 若相信,就如經上所記,他腹中會有活水如江河流出。
39. 耶穌說這話,是關乎靈的事。即相信的人,很快會接收到聖靈的同在。聖靈未到的緣由,是因耶穌的榮耀尚未被彰顯出來。
40. 眾人聽見這話,當中有許多人說:這位是真先知。
41. 有人更說:這是基督。於是有人接著說:他是不是那位從加利利過來的耶穌?
42. 我們讀過的經書,說基督是大衛的後裔,不是應該來自大衛本鄉的伯利恆嗎?
43. 為了何處是耶穌的出生地,這些人被彼此議論。
44. 當中有有人想捉拿耶穌,只是無從下手。
45. 最終結果,這些手奉差事的向祭司長和法利賽人回報時,被問及:為什麼沒拿他來?
46. 奉差事的回答:從來沒有人像他說那樣的道理。
47. 法利賽人問:你們是被騙了?
48. 說完這話,當中的領導和法利賽人,沒有一位相信。
49. 這些人,若不明白摩西的律法精神,是會受到唾棄。
50. 他們當中有位尼哥底母,就是在某個晚上,來見耶穌的,對他們說:
51. 我們的律法,不都是先聽取當事人的自辯,了解他做過什麼,才去作出判決嗎?
52。當時有人回應:你也是出於加利利,查查就知道,加利利從來沒有出過先知。
53. 這些人無語地各自回家。
約翰在描述耶穌講論時,沒有詳細去記說了什麼,只說了一句很精景的說話,卻將民眾樣的反應,描繪得很仔細。
當中有二類別的人在聖殿聽耶穌講論,都是猶太人,有會眾及教會的領袖如祭司等人。二類的人聽道的時候有二種反應,一種覺得耶穌說的道,很特別,醒腦,有奉差事去捉人,就表示耶穌說的感動了他,在投入回味的同時,就忘記了自的來的目的,把捉人的給忘了。另一種是法利賽,就是信仰當中既得利益的人 (各行各業都會存在的一種現象),他們對這些道理:v.38若相信,他腹中會有活水如江河流出。認為這說話是騙人,因此不信。
耶穌說這句語,能明白的人,不要說當時,就以今日聽的人,有多少能明白,去觀察信眾的行為,它反映出來的意思就是不明白。v.48-49 就指出若摩西在曠野立律的精神都不明白,例如安息日可以行水禮,為何不可以行助人改變的好事,這樣的精神都不明白,是自己放棄自身的權利:可以與神一起,支取無限的能力,那是一道活水,在人的肉身吸收 (天糧),展現出來,存在靈裡 (人暫時展示不出是因為時候不對,耶穌離去之後,信的人會將之以行動展示出來)。它是個人的能量,一直可以不停的付出,不會感到疲憊。人若不信,是自己的決定,人既決定,神也就只有一途,放棄祂的努力,無奈放棄。
約翰在此特別看到一個活生生的例子,那個人就是尼哥底母,這仁兄是猶太人的領袖,他在相信與不信之間在徘徊。
約翰沒有進一步說尼哥底母的最終決定,是不是要讓看書卷的人,請你們自己作出,那個決定最適合?
