31. The Jews therefore, so that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the Sabbath. because it was a preparation day, requested of Pilate that their legs might be broken and the bodies be taken away.
32. Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first one, and the legs of the other who was crucified with Him.
33. But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs;
34. But one of the soldiers had pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water had come out.
35. And he who saw this has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that what he says is true, so that you may believe.
36. For these things took place so that the scripture might be fulfilled, “Not a bone of Him shall be broken.”
37. And again another scripture says, “They shall look upon Him Whom they pierced.”
38. Now after these things, Joseph (the one from Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but having concealed it for fear of the Jews) asked Pilate that he might take Jesus’ body away; and Pilate gave him permission. Then he came and took away the body of Jesus.
39. And Nicodemus, who had come to Jesus by night at the first, also came, bearing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.
40. Then they took Jesus’ body and wound it in linen cloths with the aromatics, as is the custom among the Jews to prepare for burial.
41. Now there was a garden in the place where He was crucified, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid.
42. Because of the preparation of the Jews, they laid Jesus there; for the tomb was near. (A Faithful Version)
31. 因守節的時間快到,遺體是不容許留在十架上過渡安息日,為此,猶太人要求彼拉多,讓人打斷耶穌的腿後,把屍體移走。
32. 兵丁領了吩咐,把頭一個人的腿,和同釘的另一個人的腿一起打斷了。
33. 只是來到耶穌面前,見祂已經沒有氣息,就不用把腿打斷。
34. 有一兵丁拿槍扎他肋旁,有血和水流出。
35. 整個過程有人看到,並為此作證,這作證的人,知道自己所說的是真確,足以讓人相信。
36. 這事件就這樣成就,為要應驗舊約上記載:他的骨頭一根也不會折斷。(詩34:20)
37. 經上有另一句:人要仰視被自己所刺的人。(撒迦利亞:12:10)
38. 這事以後,有一位約瑟 (是亞利馬太人,耶穌的門徒,只因怕猶太人知道,便靜靜行事),去問彼拉多,可否讓他把耶穌的遺體領走。彼拉多準了。他領了來並運送離開。
39. 早些時候,以前夜裡去見耶穌的尼哥底母也來了,帶著沒藥和沈香,約一百斤。
40. 就在耶穌身上,按猶太人安葬的規矩,用細麻布和香料裹好。
41. 在耶穌被釘十架的地方,有一花園,內中有一處新墓地,沒有用過。
42. 是一位猶太人為自己預備,這二人就把耶穌安置在那裡。因為墓地靠近。
之前描述了耶穌為自責任安慰了自己的母親,也為她能真正託付的一位愛的門徒去關顧,就不留遺憾回到神的右邊。
此處是描述耶穌離去後,人是如何去安排他的身後事。
耶穌受審是過逾越前六個小時,也許就是逾越當日受刑。耶穌當時的身體似乎很虛弱,吩咐完要處理的事,便離去了。似乎他的離去沒有太多人留意,祭司和法利實人都有些擔心。期望不要在逾越節翌日的安息日,看到刑場上的耶穌遺體,就吩咐了那些兵丁,去加速這三人的死亡。於是仍未斷氣的,就用打斷腿骨的方式。只是到了耶穌卻發現人已離去。
有一位亞利馬大的約瑟,避開了眾人,靜靜到彼拉多請求認領耶穌的遺體。當時對耶穌滿是同情的彼拉多,是樂於順水推舟,反正祭司和法利賽人都不理會。耶穌的親人和門徒,甚或相信的人,似乎在很短時間內,就準備好一切安葬的禮儀用品。其中有尼哥底母悉心預備和殯葬用品,只當時猶太人的方式,處理得妥妥當當,就安然入墓。
他們能這樣迅速的善後,最大的緣因是墓地離刑場很近。(v. 42)
當中有一位很突出的人物:尼哥底母。他向耶穌問道,當時覺得挺好,只是代價太大,似乎經過了一番掙扎之後,態度有了很大的改變。真理,有時令初接觸的人感到迷惑,若是有心追尋,總能得著。耶穌將人生的道理講得明明白白,以致激發他對人生的態度作出改變,你能嗎?
經文在35節:整個過程有人看到,並為此作證,這作證的人,知道自己所說的是真確,足以讓人相信。這是指誰?按文章的思路,這個人最有可能就是那位耶穌所愛的門徒。這位門徒對舊約非常熟悉,這反映在舊約經文的引用,與當時耶穌說的和發生的,用得非常準確。因此,有釋經的認為這是預言。預言可否留心一些從常規性的事物當中,因為了解而生出事物發展的預測?例如善有善報之類的形容?約翰對舊約的了解,在引經據典上,似乎是可以說明。這個人記性很好,也許是專心無別的雜念所致。
耶穌的肉身或者個人的情慾上,是死了。
