18. Then Zacharias said to the angel, “By what means shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in years.”

19. And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God; and I was sent to speak to you, and to announce this good news to you.

20. But behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day in which these things shall take place, because you did not believe my words, which shall be fulfilled in their time.”

21. Now the people were expecting Zacharias, and they were wondering why he was taking such a long time in the temple.

22. But when he came out, he was not able to speak to them. Then they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple; for he was making signs to them, but he remained mute.

23. Now it came to pass that when the days of his service were fulfilled, he departed to his house.

24. And after those days, Elizabeth his wife conceived, but hid herself for five months, saying,

25. “The Lord has intervened for me in this, at the time in which He looked upon me to take away my reproach among men.” (A Faithful Version)

18. 撒迦利亞問使者：我怎知這事會發生？我都老了，我妻子年紀也不輕。

19. 使者回應：我是加百列，是在神面前得候差遣，要將這好消息傳遞給你知道。

20. 看來你要成為啞巴，不能言傳，直到這些事成就的日子，因為你不信。只是，時候到了必會應驗。

21. 在殿外等候撒迦利亞眾人，奇怪為何在殿裡許久仍未出來。

22. 當看到他出來，卻不能說話。他們心知他在殿裡必然是見到異象所致，因為他只能示意卻無言以對。

23. 直至當日供職的時間滿了，就回家去。

24. 自此以後，過了五個月像坐牢的日子，妻子伊利沙白就懷了孕，她對撒迦利亞說：

25. 主在此時主動介入這事。，是因為眷顧著我，在這人間為我除掉恥辱。

這是一件人間奇事，是因為猶太人的不信導致。猶太人的不信，不是不信而是想以自己的方式活出，因此有領袖用人間管理的方式。管理的方式是中性，看管理的人用什麼心態。從以色列人出埃及，就是為奴之地被拯救出來，當中似乎有很大部份人，在艱辛的日子當中，忘記了用信心面對。當中許多人更喜歡有領袖帶領。沒有領袖的日子，個人在團結上真的不容易，因此人會尋求領袖，是可以理解。

耶穌是以新的領袖方式出現，不是道德上的領袖，是信心上的領袖。這領袖會為人在信心上的軟弱，作出個人的犧牲，包括了自由甚至死亡的需要。而路加，看到了新領袖到來，神是如何為人預備好，漸進的去認識，神對人走迷的心理狀況是了解，讓人回歸過信心的生活。

為此，路加說耶穌因何而來，又如何而來，是神行使祂的主權，向一位事奉神的顯明。這顯明是以一種人難以想像得出的方式：老來生子。撒迦利亞就不相信。

正常思維的人都不會相信。因為這事是超乎人能想像：無中生有，不可能成為可能。撒迦利亞不信，神讓他閉口，看神蹟的出現。

伊利沙白，這位人妻又如何理解？神讓她除去了被歧視這樣的恥辱，所謂不孝不三無後為大的亞洲人被灌輸的道德觀而來。這婦人最清楚這是一回什麼事，因為親歷其事。

人，有沒有信心，在信仰上是一件大事。神蹟是如何會出現？這是神的主權，它是如何出現？人可以因為自己的需要，求神蹟的出現？是否經歷過神蹟才會信神？其實，神蹟固然重要，相信有神蹟才是對人更為重要。人，看不到的不會相信，在經歷當中的人會相信。約翰在說信仰的歷史，這記載留傳至今。
