https://www.neverthirsty.org/bible-qa/qa-archives/question/when-was-publius-quirinius-governor-of-syria-luke-22/ 這個人口普查, 在事件和耶穌的出生的時間上,有較多的爭論。有說是路加出錯,這說法是根據歷史的記載事件有其人只是與耶穌出生的時間不吻合(這判斷的根據可靠?),有沒有可能在歷史上出現過卻不曾記載?路加是當事人,自己不清楚?在眾說紛云當中,上述所引的都是一個參考,似乎是較簡明,就選上。這處不是研判這段表白的真偽,而是按路加的說法,尊重寫書的人,因為找不到不能相信路加的理由。

這段記載的主要目的,是記錄耶穌的出身是大衛之後。它是從旁去印證,是借人口普查這事件,猶太人要回歸原居地作出申報這個歷史事件去說明。這申報地就記於:v.4 約瑟從加利利起程,離開拿撒勒地,進猶大地(泛指巴勒斯坦)當中的大衛城,又稱伯利恆(a village about 10 km south of Jerusalem)是大衛先祖的原居地。

耶穌到人間的預言:

彌迦書 5:2伯利恆的以法他啊,在猶大諸城中為小,將來必有一位從那裏出來,在以色列中作掌權的;根源是從亙古,從太初就有。註:以法他 在創世記35:19-20 拉結死了,葬在以法他的路旁;以法他就是伯利恆。雅各在她的墳上立了碑,就是拉結的墓碑,到今日還在。

這些都是一個旁證,相信有神的心意佈局其中,讓人可以從旁中看出神的心意。這種間接的提示,似乎是神一直在用,相信緣因只有一個:人有分辨的靈,只要這靈不被遮掩便可。作為看書人,這種既主觀又客觀的記叙事物上,真心的人自能從體會當中相信。歷史的事,是看誰去記,不都是有客觀又情真的陳述。最能用以判斷的方法像保羅說:靈巧純良。
