37. Now it came to pass that on the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great multitude met Him.

38. And a man in the crowd immediately cried out, saying, “Master, I beseech You, look upon my son, because he is my only child;

39. And a spirit takes him, and he suddenly cries out; and it throws him into convulsions with foaming, and then departs from him with difficulty, leaving him bruised.

40. And I besought Your disciples, that they might cast it out; but they were not able.”

41. Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you, and bear with you? Bring your son here.”

42. And as he was approaching, the demon flung him down and threw him into convulsions. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and gave him back to his father.

43. And all were astonished at the majesty of God. And while everyone was wondering about all the things that Jesus had done, He said to His disciples.

44. “Let these words sink deep into your ears, for the Son of man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.”

45. But they did not understand this saying; for it was concealed from them, so that they would not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask Him about this saying.

46. Then an argument arose among them which was this: who would be the greatest among them.

47. And when Jesus perceived the thoughts of their hearts, He took hold of a little child and set it by Him,

48. And said to them, “Whoever shall receive this little child in My name receives Me; and whoever shall receive Me receives Him Who sent Me. For the one who is least among you all shall be great.” (A Faithful Version)

37. 直到第二天,一眾人等下山,迎面來了許多人。

38. 內中有人大叫:老師,請你來看我兒子,是唯一的兒子。

39. 他的靈被攪擾,會突然大叫,又會無端抽搐,口流白沫,持續很久,弄得筋疲力竭。

40. 曾經央求過使徒去處理,卻是不能。

41. 耶穌回說:哎!這個滿懷心計的世代,我要留到幾時才休!忍耐到何時才止!把你兒子帶來。

42. 正當耶穌正走近時,污靈使他抽搐,耶穌指斥這污靈,便治好了這孩子,並交還他父親。

43. 邊觀眾人,都驚訝於神的權能。正希奇耶穌所做的時候,耶穌對使徒說:

44. 以下說的話要深深地記住,是有關人子,將要被送交有心人手裡。

45. 門徒不明,是因為意圖被隱而不言,他們不明又不敢問。

46. 於是大家就去猜測,是指他們中間誰為大?

47. 耶穌早知他們的想法,於是領來一小孩,站在自己旁邊,

48. 指著小孩對他們說:凡為我的名接待這小孩,就是接待我;凡接待我的,就是接待那差我來的。你們中間最小的,就是最大。

路加記載這段事故,當中最不易明的地方,是運用事件本身的現象,而現象卻暗藏了真正的意思,又稱為隱喻。問題是為什麼不明說,緣由何在。

這段記述是五千人吃飽這神蹟,過了二日後發生的事。耶穌出現引來許多人,那是必然會發生,是人心嚮往大能的事這種心態作怪。當中有人,他唯一的兒子似是瘋了,而這人求的不是求認識真理,是求奇蹟發生在他兒子,這個唯一的在當時社會的傳宗按代的延續。這就涉及當中的社會文化和制度的深層結構:男人是世界主導。

耶穌不單看現象,也清楚現象出現背後的動機和緣由。當時就說了一句:哎!這個滿懷心計的世代,我要留到幾時才休!忍耐到何時才止!把你兒子帶來 (V.41)。

這記述發人心醒,今日許多相信的,不就是藉相信有神蹟這種心態,成為人這求的動力,為此能事事亨通,自不然財源滾滾或者平安大吉。耶穌很早就說,神蹟不可言,更因為它有更深層的意義在背後。它不但沒有即時帶來奇蹟,倒是信的人會被人為的逼害。它可以是來自同樣相信的人,也可以是不相信的人,因為問題出現不是相信不相信,而是保羅了解人本性上的私慾這個觀念,它源自該隱。面對這樣的情勢,只有一個方法:不怕死。信仰的精意那是一線之間,怕的就真的死了。

說到此,耶穌對危機的感覺和體會似乎是愈來愈深刻。特別在人的私心跟社會觀念帶來的隱憂,因為就算是使徒,是隨身跟從的,對於耶穌做的事和信神是什麼回事,都不清楚。就如當耶穌去描述將要發生的事,自己被人帶去受審,門徒就想起了由誰去繼承耶穌大統,看的是誰的能力大小而定。

這是人承接大位的方式,在機構在政府,一直到今日依舊沿用普遍法則,相信很難有新的系統可以代替。但在信仰,在神在創造時,用[好]這字去形容人與人及世界,那是人盡其才物盡其用,是人類安居和享受生活的模式,以此作為比較,就不是這個以權柄能力為優先考慮,而是愛有多真。

愛一個人,有許多方式,一般情況是看對方要什麼,就盡力而為。在信仰不是這樣,是用裝不出來的愛作衡量的準則,例如神對人的愛。神因愛作出自限,因愛自控,因愛犧牲自己的喜好,不是放縱別人而是助人成長。於是,耶穌拉來一位小孩,對使徒說:他最小卻是最大,這小孩說的和行的一切都出自本心真性情的表達,是真愛的根源所在。

回到為什麼不明說。相信當中一個要求是:明察秋毫。這是信仰要求對種種事件作出分辨找出緣由是個重點。因為人將違心視為正常,那是去抹煞良心的一種謊言。神的那口正氣跟人良心都能受謊言瞞騙,只要不去思考,不作分辨就會只懂跟隨。而樂於在謊言中的人,是自我陶醉,不會清醒。受謊言而不覺,一是有私意冀圖,一是無知,這二類別的人是世界亂的根源。

這番話對提阿非羅必然會有影響,能否說服那是另一個問題。他會考慮,結果是…?
