18. “A voice was heard in Rama, lamentation and weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; and she would not be comforted, because they were not.”

https://www.miketaylor.org.uk/xian/bible/timeline.html 先知何西阿和耶利米的傳道生涯之間大約有150到200年的間隔。何西阿在公元前732左右開始預言,而耶利米則從公元前640就開始活躍。這段時期包括公元前以色列北國被亞述攻陷,以及從耶利米時代開始的南猶大被擄到巴比倫。
馬太將二位先知曾對以色列勸戒之言,舖陳出來,二段說話都讓以色列人明白,這一個世紀以來,耶和華從未放棄過以色列,無論他們偏離得有多遠,愛始終在等候人的回應。這不單在對以色列的顯示,到了耶穌那個年代,對外邦人似乎也有這份應許。
這段記述最吸引的地方,是約瑟的描述使者對他的啟示。使者同先知是不同時間,是耶和華對不願意聽的時候,成為耶和華的代言人。先知出現於舊約,是同族的人。到了新約,因為有了外邦人的因素,也因為沒有民族文化的承傳,從撒迦利亞開始,使者是靈與相信者的靈就有互通的情況,被描述出來。約瑟是個義人是個關鍵的因素。
如果這情況出現,必然與約瑟平常對世事的觀察中有所了解。這種對世事的了解,就如昔日的先知說出預知的後果,如猶太人堅持離開與耶和華立約的原則,就必不會安居樂業,甚至只能以寄居渡日。事實猶太人就活在不同國家管活。現今最明顯的例子就是巴勒斯坦,和以色列國之爭,現在的後遺現象,這地就是當日十二支派的地方。約瑟的夢報的使者與當日的先知的預知預見,都離不開以耶和華的原則,為觀察的基點,以此對應時局的變化,是否合乎和諧尊重,又如耶和華懂得自控和人立約。
