14. And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him,

15. And saying, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is insane and suffers miserably; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.

16. And I brought him to Your disciples, but they were not able to heal him.”

17. Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you in your unbelief? Bring him here to Me.”

18. And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it departed from him; and the boy was healed from that hour.

19. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why were we not able to cast it out?”

20. And Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief. For truly I say to you, if you have faith as a tiny mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, ‘Remove from here,’ and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you.

21. But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

22. And while they were dwelling in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men,

23. And they shall kill Him; but the third day He shall be raised up.” And they were exceedingly sorrowful.

24. Now after coming to Capernaum, those who received the tribute money came to Peter and said, “Does not your Master pay tribute?”

25. And he said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus, anticipating his question, said, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive custom or tribute? From their own children, or from strangers?”

26. Peter said to Him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Then the children are indeed free.

27. Nevertheless, so that we may not offend them, go to the sea and cast a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you have opened its mouth, you shall find a coin. Take that, and give it to them for Me and you.”

14. 耶穌和使徒下山來到眾人當中，有人走到耶穌面前屈膝，

15. 說：主啊，可憐我的兒子！他神智不清，苦不堪言，有時失足趺落火堆，有時水溝。

16. 曾帶他去見你的使徒，卻未被治好。

17. 耶穌回應：唉！現今這不信又萌塞的人！還要與你們相處多久？忍耐這等不信到幾時？請帶妳的兒子到來！

18. 耶穌當即斥責那污靈，魔就離開。從那時起，那孩子就治好了。

19. 使徒私下來問：我們為什麼趕不走呢？

20. 耶穌回應：你們不信。我實在告訴你們，若有芥菜種那樣信心，對這座山說：移到那，也必挪去，沒有一件不能做的事。

21. 若不禱告和敬虔的操練，信心是長不出來。

22. 住在加利利這段時間，耶穌對使徒解釋：人子會被人出賣，

23. 這些人會將他處死，三天後復活，眾人聽後極其憂愁。

24. 回到了迦百農，有收稅的人來見彼得，問：你們的拉比尚未繳稅？

25. 彼得說：還未交？於是進入屋內。耶穌早就知道會問什麼，就說：西門，你認為要不要交？地上的王，習慣向誰收取稅項？向自己的國民，還是向進來的外人？

26. 彼得回應：向進來的外來人收取。耶穌說：若是這樣，王的子民就無須支付。

27. 不過，為了不觸怒他們，你到海邊去，放下魚鉤，魚上勾後，將開嘴巴，有一枚錢幣，就用這錢幣給我和你們作交稅之用。

這段描述有個重點：使徒信心不足。

使徒是什麼人？是相信又放下一起，跟隨耶穌的。放下工作例如漁業工作者，對生活的不確定性習慣了，要求不高，生活的環境單純，這些都是有利於跟隨的因素。耶穌讓他們跟隨，最合理的理由是讓他們明白相信什麼。跟在一起，可以更直接，以親身經歷作為認識的基本，附之說明和解釋。有些使徒很早就一起，例如同村的彼得和安得烈，並約翰等人，其後在不同時間加入的，並有12位，不是每位對信仰是什麼回事，都有同樣的理解。

這段對話，正如說明他們的不理解，在一知半解當中，都被認為不明白：耶穌回應：唉！現今這不信又萌塞的人！還要與你們相處多久？忍耐這等不信到幾時？請帶妳的兒子到來！(17節)， 前半段的對象是當日的使徒，當中用 generation G1074 在此的理解不是世代，而是這世代的人，指的是跟隨這麼久的使徒，信心依舊不足。

其次，有譯婦人的兒子是瘋子，也是可以，這詞 G1294 當中似乎用神智不清更能對應內容的處境。事關事件觸及使徒面對同樣的處境，當時是未能解決，婦人就直接找耶穌。這事件顯示婦人對耶穌有絕對信心，使徒不能不表示耶穌不能  (19. 使徒私下來問：我們為什麼趕不走呢？)。

使徒為何不能？耶穌解釋是信心不足。

這問題似乎是預言今日許多信眾不單不能，更重要是許多疑問，人多疑，信心何來？耶穌回應人當如何增強自己的信心：21節fasting D3521 當中有譯做是宗教的自願行為。為什麼要禁食，是因為要面對困難的情況，一時之間無法解決時，去尋求方法的可行舉措，專心仰望耶和華而獲取當有的智慧。這舉動是人要讓自己在無慾無求當中去領受耶和華的啟迪。因此，用敬虔的操練代替 [禁食]。當信眾信心不足的時候，自己就要尋求不足的緣由，認識又能改善，信心就會加增。

從24 – 27 節，是處理一個實際的問題：信眾是天國的子民，在地上是沒有身份，按道理是無須向現政權交稅。

耶穌的解釋很有意思，他說：不用為此去觸怒。不去觸怒，人如何能夠？耶穌吩咐去釣魚，魚嘴有錢幣可用作交稅之用。看來，這是個應許！意思是信眾是有足夠的能力去按規矩交稅。當然每個人都不同，是因為職份不一樣，交稅多少也就不盡相同，耶和華都會為他們預備，用今日的稅制而言，人被管治的觀念下，當然不明，因為信仰的終極對象不是政府，民要立稅給政府，是交保護費。在天國，屬耶和華的子民不用。

代為交稅，是因為你在別人的管治之下。耶和華的偉大和豐富，都在為你交稅的事上顯明出來。信的人無須去逃稅，光明正大，內心那份平安，就是絕對。交稅，只是人生中其中一事。

耶和華為相信的交稅， 錢不是從天上掉下來，是自己去下鉤釣魚。耶和華給人是能力，不是叫人去依賴。今日的華人信眾，知道神是萬有，自己不努力，這種依據似乎不是耶穌基督的心意，靠主努力才是。
