10. These are the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood.

11. And after he begat Arphaxad, Shem lived five hundred years. And he begat sons and daughters.

12. And Arphaxad lived thirty-five years and begat Salah.

13. And after he begat Salah, Arphaxad lived four hundred and three years. And he begat sons and daughters.

14. And Salah lived thirty years and begat Eber.

15. And after he begat Eber, Salah lived four hundred and three years. And he begat sons and daughters.

16. And Eber lived thirty-four years and begat Peleg.

17. And after he begat Peleg, Eber lived four hundred and thirty years. And he begat sons and daughters.

18. And Peleg lived thirty years and begat Reu.

19. After he begat Reu, Peleg lived two hundred and nine years. And he begat sons and daughters.

20. And Reu lived thirty-two years and begat Serug.

21. And after he begat Serug, Reu lived two hundred and seven years. And he begat sons and daughters.

22. And Serug lived thirty years and begat Nahor.

23. And after he begat Nahor, Serug lived two hundred years. And he begat sons and daughters.

24. And Nahor lived twenty-nine years and begat Terah.

25. And after he begat Terah, Nahor lived a hundred and nineteen years. And he begat sons and daughters.

26. And Terah lived seventy years and begat Abram, Nahor and Haran.

10. 這是閃的後代。年一百歲，生了亞法撒， 約在洪水過去的第二年。

11. 閃生亞法撒，艱辛生活了五百年，當中生兒育女。

12. 亞法撒過了三十五艱辛的生活，生了沙拉。

13. 生了沙拉之後，亞法撒過了四百零三年艱辛的生活，當中生兒育女。

14. 沙拉過了三十年艱辛的生活，生了希伯。

15. 生了希伯之後，沙拉繼過了四百零三年艱辛的生活，當中生兒育女。

16. 希伯同樣艱辛生活了三十四年，生了法勒。

17. 希伯生法勒之後，艱辛過活四百三十年。生兒育女。

18. 法勒艱辛過活三十年，生了拉烏。

19. 生了拉烏之後，艱辛過活二百零九年，生兒育女。

20. 拉烏艱辛過活三十二年，生了西鹿。

21. 生了西鹿之後，艱辛過活二百零七年，生兒育女。

22. 西鹿艱辛過活三十年，生了拿鶴。

23. 生拿鶴之後，艱辛過活二百年，生兒育女。

24. 拿鶴艱辛過活二十九年，生了特拉。

25. 生特拉之後，艱辛過活一百一十九年，生兒育女。

26. 特拉艱辛過活到七十年，生了亞伯蘭，拿鶴和哈蘭。

摩西將閃之後代用二個不同記叙。第一個記載是10章，當中的重點在於後代的成就。顯示當日的技能足以應付生活，和奠基許多文明科技的基礎，是在人的腦海內。人也就有了完滿自己成就的慾望。

這是第二段描述閃。記載是從方舟前起記，那是洪水到來前二年生下亞法撒。這記載的方式有點像記載含的後代，含的後代在個人表現上很出色，有許多生活和娛樂上的發明，這些後代過的日子，若相比於閃，他們面對環境的能力很強。而閃的後代，相比之下就不一樣。

這段記載一開始，用一個詞去形容  H2421 lived 可以譯為生活或生存。但這生存當中是什麼狀態？是有疾病和死亡的威脅在圍繞。這種威脅從何而來？環境。

這個讓他們生存的地方，是剛好洪水退去之後，這記載比起含的後代，時間上是更早一點。他們在一個洪水過後一切從頭再來的處境下生活，日子過得艱辛那是個事實。因此這處用  艱辛生活  這個詞代替 [活] 這個詞。

這段記載的重要在於帶出一位信仰之父：亞伯蘭，後稱亞伯拉罕。這位信心之父，在信心方面，須是相信同一位創造者，卻有不同的表達方式。在亞當的後代當中，能人輩出，卻只有一位以信心回應，以行動帶出這份心意？

註：哈蘭以前是地名，現今為人名，它和他之間有關連？
