13. And there came one who had escaped. And he told Abram the Hebrew, for he lived in the plains of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner. And these had a covenant with Abram.

14. And when Abram heard that his kinsman was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house (three hundred and eighteen) and pursued them to Dan.

15. And he divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants. And he struck them, and pursued them to Hobah, which is on the left of Damascus.

16. And he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his kinsman Lot and his goods, and the women also, and the people.

17. And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and of the kings with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king’s valley.

18. And Melchizedek the King of Salem brought forth bread and wine. And He was the Priest of the Most High God.

19. And He blessed him, and said, “Blessed be Abram of the Most High God, possessor of heaven and earth.

20. And blessed be the Most High God, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave Him tithes of all.

21. And the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people and take the goods for yourself.”

22. And Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have lifted up my hand to the LORD, the Most High God, the possessor of heaven and earth,

23. That I will take nothing that is yours—from a thread even to a sandal strap—lest you say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’

24. Nothing for me, only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre—let them take their portion.”

13. 當時有位逃離劫難的人,告訴希伯來人亞伯蘭,他曾住在幔利 (Mamre) 的橡樹林,屬巴勒斯坦平原,伊實各 (Eshcol) 和亞乃 (Aner) 是兄弟屬摩利人 (Amorite),與亞伯蘭早有約定。

14. 亞伯蘭聽到姪子被擄,就把家中訓練有素的僕人(三百一十八人)武裝起來,一直追趕,直到丹 (Dan:巴勒斯坦北面的地域)。

15. 待到晚上,把人數分配妥當,偷襲成功,追趕到霍巴 (Hobah),位於大馬士革 (Damascus)左邊。

16. 掠奪了財物,也拯救了親姪羅得和屬於他的財物,並被擄中的婦女和一眾人等。

17. 亞伯蘭消滅了基大老瑪和眾王之後,戰勝回歸,到了沙微谷,所多瑪王出來迎接。

18. 撒冷 (Salem) 王麥基洗德 (Melchizedek) 帶著餅和酒同時出來。是至高大祭司。

19. 他隨即為亞伯蘭祝福,說:願至高者,天地的主,賜福與你!

20. 至高者是應當稱頌的,因祂將仇敵交你手中。亞伯蘭將所得的十分之一給他。

21. 所多瑪王隨後對亞伯蘭說:人給我,財物歸你自己。

22. 亞伯蘭回應:我曾向耶和華、至高者,天地的主宰起誓,

23. 不取任何東西,哪怕是一條線,一根鞋帶,免得有人說:亞伯蘭今次發達了。

24. 為此,什麼也不要,只希望歸還那年輕人所有,及屬於與我同行的幔利人,亞乃和以實和他們各自的份額。

摩西這述事當中,對亞伯蘭沒布正面的描述,從側面的勾勒當中,把亞伯蘭對相信耶和華那份保證的信心,從開始一直在變,是愈來愈大。這次事件正好說明。

自從與羅得分開之後,亞伯蘭是靠自己的能力,在條件相對較差的環境中,不斷擴大自己的資本。換句話,他用自己的能力,信心跟著耶和華,走出了自己的一片天。因為這段描述,正好說明,他在依靠信心,憑著自己的努力,到了一個地步,與當時有權力的王者,並駕齊驅,能力財力有過之而無不及。

亞伯蘭的相信,和羅得的不信,他們之間便顯出明顯的差別。不是能力和際遇,而是從信心而來的的獨立能力。

更為重要的是,那份對親人的責任和照顧。以色列人對維護家族的心力,不一是一個家庭而是一個族群,那份緊密和責任,真是少有。你很少看到以色列人到處找工作,他們分散,卻不分離。

這種責任在這事件上可以看出:

1. 對自己的姪子羅得是責任:這姪仔很早就跟著亞伯蘭。因此,在寄居的時候,因為地方不足以維持牲畜的食用,選擇離去較遠的地方,避免衝突。羅得選擇接近繁華的地方,也因此,在國與國的戰事中,自然因為地理容易受到波及,人財被擄。亞伯蘭自己若是無力無財,就不可能做救人的事。

亞伯蘭的信仰人生,是一種向上得來的助力,不靠人,因為有耶和華。這種人和創造者之間有種無形的卻有強大的實力,讓個人足以發揮本身的潛能。就是這種潛能讓亞伯蘭在年日積聚人力物力。到了這日,便在計算當中,曉得有能力為自己的家人作出應有的責任。能力財力是儲蓄待用。

2. 對來報訊的人,他是守約:亞伯蘭如何得知? 第13節記載亞伯蘭與那地域的人在保護各人的安全和支援方面早有約定。現在來報訊的人,願意守約,並一起協助營救,得勝回來。當那國王要求亞伯蘭歸亞伯蘭,那麼隨他援救的人,是須要保護。就有了:24. 為此,什麼也不要,只希望歸還那年輕人所有,及屬於與我同行的幔利人,亞乃和以實和他們各自的份額。亞伯蘭不會因為自己的事解決了,就不理與他立約又守約去幫助的人。

這二個原則放在今日,作為衡量做人應有的本份,去測量你身邊的人和事,會發現什麼現象是比教普遍,就明白做人的道理,早就被個人的求存的私慾所掩埋,成了做人自私又不守約。

生存求存是人人都會面對,有信心的人,亞伯蘭正好說明,信心對人生遇到不同際遇的時候,有份勇氣,有份自立的能力,它源自信心而來,憑此堅定的心志,能克服內心的恐懼。人內心恐懼來自對認知範疇的不確定產生,若存心在耶和華交其保管,你就是信心之父,像亞伯蘭一樣,人不會稱他為好人,是信心的樣板。
