7. And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain on the way to Shur.

8. And he said, “Hagar, Sarai’s maidservant, where did you come from? And where will you go?” And she said, “I flee from the presence of my mistress Sarai.”

9. And the angel of the LORD said to her, “Return to your mistress and submit yourself under her hands.”

10. And the angel of the LORD said to her, “I will multiply your seed exceedingly, so that they shall not be numbered for multitude.”

11. And the angel of the LORD said to her, “Behold, you are with child, and shall bear a son. And you shall call his name Ishmael because the LORD has heard your affliction.

12. And he will be a wild man. His hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him. And he shall live in the presence of all his brothers.”

13. And she called the name of the LORD Who had spoken to her, You are a God of Seeing! For she said, “Even here have I seen Him that sees me?”

14. Therefore the well was called The Well of the Living One Seeing Me.

15. And Hagar bore Abram a son. And Abram called his son’s name, which Hagar bore, Ishmael.

16. And Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.

7. 在往書珥路上的一個水源，耶和華問夏甲。

8. 撒萊的婢女夏甲，妳從哪裡來？要往何處去？她回應：我是從主母撒萊出走到此。

9. 耶和華對她說，你還是回去，聽從妳主母的吩咐吧！

10. 耶和華給她的信息：應許妳的後裔極其繁多，人數不可勝數。

11. 耶和華對她說，你既懷孕，會生一子，給他起名叫以實瑪利。意思是耶和華聽到你的苦情。

12. 這兒子生長在曠野。他有力量面對任何對抗的，這些人須然作出對抗，只是，他仍依舊活在眾兄弟當中。

13. 她聽罷，就口稱這位與她說話的耶和華為主，是位明白事理的至高者！她從心底裡說出：祂實在明白我今日的處境。

14. 為此，這水源又稱：盼望之源。

15. 回去後，夏甲為亞伯蘭生了一子。亞伯蘭給這兒子取名以實瑪利。

16. 夏甲生以實瑪利時，亞伯蘭八十六歲。

這段是描繪夏甲的一個內心獨白。她是什麼人？

夏甲是埃及人，如何成為亞伯藩的婢女？這就要從亞伯蘭叫妻子做妹子那段歷史談起。夏甲是法老當成婚禮嫁妝的一部份，連男僕牲畜等物一起，從那時開始成了亞伯蘭財富的一部份。

這段描述夏甲如何想起耶和華對亞伯蘭的應許：10. 耶和華給她的信息：應許妳的後裔極其繁多，人數不可勝數。她記起這個應許，這同樣的亞伯蘭所出的後代。

夏甲信不信有位耶和華不清楚，可她是可能曉得耶和華曾經對亞伯蘭的應許，也明白亞伯蘭感到的遺憾。只是因為自己的傲慢，不懂尊重主母待來的結果。此時在迦南和埃及中間的書珥的一個水源旁邊，走了一大段不容易走的路，坐下去想，她的前路可以靠誰？ 在這種絕望中，想起這個應許。

她這種相信，同樣是相信，有基礎卻沒有肯定。在絕望當中，這份信念在不知不覺間成了她的榮耀。因為耶和華確曾這樣應許：亞伯拉罕子孫眾多。當中沒有說是從正室或是任何身份，總之從亞伯蘭出的，就是在應許的範圍。

世界有二大信仰的分野：相信有耶和華或不相信。無論相信或不相信，都是依據亞伯蘭的應許承傳過來。

這處突出另一類相信，是不用經過認信的過程，不同於今日對信眾的要求。夏甲在困難時，是在無助的處境，叫天天不理，叫地地不聞，耶和華對亞伯蘭的承諾，原來她也同樣擁有。她的後代也同樣強大，不比以色列差，卻是活在自己的情慾和血氣，一種自私當中。這種自私在今日的以色列和伊朗就顯示無遺。在人間的歷史當中，有信仰又能自強的人不多，卻能在重要的歷史時刻，把將要滅亡的世界，挽回過來。今日如是，美國有MAGA。自強就能自保。
