12. And the men said to Lot, “Have you anyone here besides yourself? Bring your sons-in-law, and your sons, and your daughters, and anyone else you have in the city, bring them out of this place,

13. For we will destroy this place, because great is the cry of it before the face of the LORD. And the LORD has sent us to destroy it.”

14. And Lot went out and spoke with his sons-in-law, who married his daughters, and said, “Get up and get out of this place, for the LORD will destroy this city.” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be jesting.

15. And when the morning dawned, then the angels hurried Lot, saying, “Rise up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city.”

16. But he lingered, so the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hands of his two daughters (the LORD being merciful to him), and they brought him forth and set him outside the city.

17. And it came to pass, when they brought him outside, they said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you, nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountain lest you be consumed.”

18. And Lot said to them, “Oh no, my Lord,

19. Behold now, your servant has found grace in your sight, and you have magnified your mercy, which you have shown to me in saving my life. But I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil overtake me and I die.

20. Behold now, this city is near to flee to, and it is a little one. Oh let me escape there—is it not a little one?—and my soul shall live.”

21. And the angel said to him, “See, I have accepted you concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city for which you have spoken.

22. Hurry and escape there! For I cannot do anything till you arrive there.” Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

23. The sun had risen upon the land, and Lot entered into Zoar.

24. Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire, from the LORD out of heaven.

25. And He overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

26. But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

12. 這位客人對羅得說：除了你還有其他，如女婿、子女等，以及城裡面你熟識的都帶他們離開。

13. 這地要被消滅，因為有極大的哀聲傳到耶和華，我們是為此而來。

14. 於是，羅得便去對女婿，以及眾子女說：都起來，要離開這地，因耶和華要滅這城。女婿卻以為在開玩笑。

15. 天亮了，使者催促羅得：快起程！帶你妻子和兩個女兒離開，免因這城被罰而波及。

16. 於是，這位客人，以力抓緊羅得及其妻的手、並他的兩個女兒，都帶離開到城外去。

17. 既帶出後，便催促：為自己的性命，趕快離去！千萬不要回頭，也不要停留在平原，要到山上，免被波及遭到毀滅。

18. 羅得此時說出要求：可否不到山上！

19. 僕人既蒙大恩，又給我莫大的憐憫，挽救了我的命。只是不想到山上避禍，恐怕惹來更大的災禍，便逃不了死亡的結局。

20. 看哪，就這近處有一小鎮，可以到那處，地方不大，就容我到那裡。那地方細少，相信在那裡，能夠安生保命。

21. 使者回應：好吧！就按你的意思，保留這小鎮給你。

22. 那麼，趕快起程！因為你不到那裡，我什麼都不能做。那城叫瑣珥。

23. 當太陽升起，羅得到了瑣珥。

24. 耶和華便在這時，從天上降下硫磺與火，就像雨一般落在所多瑪和蛾摩拉。

25. 將整個城市都給反轉朝天，平原、城裡的人，和地上生長的一切，無一幸免。

26. 羅得的妻子，此時回頭一看，成了一根鹽柱。

這段描述很有意思，這是人性中美善的地方：愛屋及烏。也像是耶和華在試驗有過一次不信的亞伯蘭。因為，要滅那滿是烏煙瘴氣的所多瑪，是不用事先將事情透露。預先透露給亞伯蘭，就是看他識別的能力，又如何去反應，讓這些去顯明亞伯蘭真正內心的想法。亞伯蘭沒有讓耶和華趺眼鏡。

在18: 17   耶和華想：我行事豈能瞞著亞伯蘭？

亞伯蘭是從耶和華的去向，猜知去的目的，就想起他絰子羅得，也聽從耶和華的吩咐通知在城居住的羅得。

當耶和華到了所多瑪的所在地，羅得出來迎接，是因為收到了通知的緣故。人是被接到，只是不想去留宿，按一般情況，人有選擇的自由，大都不會勉強。只是羅得接了通知為何不逃離？有許多可能的解釋，最為合理也許是預備的時間不夠，也許留下可以在某些地方作出協助。

耶和華留宿，是因為要給足夠時間準備，在 22節  那麼，趕快起程！因為你不到那裡，我什麼都不能做。這是對亞伯蘭的應許，也是對後來的人顯明一個事實，願意相信行出本份的人，必然得救，這應許從亞伯蘭和羅得那時，就應許而且守約。相信的人大可以放心。

羅得離開卻不依耶和華的吩咐。可以嗎，不怕有不聽話的後果？那要看不聽的緣因。羅得不上高山，因為那裡沒有人。選擇到城郊的小鎮，就是救小鎮中的人。

人，從那烏煙瘴氣的地方走出，就不要再回頭。有人不聽，結果也跟這城一樣，為什麼？

這倒要問為什麼要回頭？那是一種內心留戀舊的生活方式，那是拖人後腿，要不得的想法。人，若戀慕過往那份安逸，是從罪中而得，那是必然死路一條。
