9. And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian (whom she had borne to Abraham) mocking.

10. And she said to Abraham, “Cast out this maidservant and her son, for the son of this maidservant shall not be heir with my son, with Isaac.

11. And the thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight because of his son.

12. And God said to Abraham, “Let it not be grievous in your sight because of the boy and because of your maidservant. In all that Sarah has said to you, hearken to her words, for in Isaac your seed shall be called.

13. And also, I will make a nation of the son of the maidservant because he is your seed.”

14. And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder. And he gave her the boy, and sent her away. And she departed and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.

15. And the water in the skin was gone, and she placed the boy under one of the shrubs.

16. And she went and sat down across from him a good way off, about a bowshot, for she said, “Let me not see the death of the boy.” And she sat across from him, and lifted up her voice and wept.

17. And God heard the voice of the boy, and the angel of God called to Hagar out of the heavens, and said to her, “What ails you, Hagar? Do not fear, for God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.

18. Rise up, lift up the boy and hold him up with your hand, for I will make him a great nation.”

19. And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the skin with water, and gave a drink to the boy.

20. And God was with the boy, and he grew and lived in the wilderness, and became an archer.

21. And he lived in the wilderness of Paran, and his mother took a wife for him out of the land of Egypt.

9. 撒拉看見埃及女子夏甲所生的兒子在笑。

10. 便對亞伯拉罕說：把這女僕及其兒子趕走，他不可與我的兒子以撒繼承你的產業。

11. 亞伯拉罕因為同是自己的兒子，心裡感到兩難。

12. 耶和華此時對亞伯拉罕說：不用擔心她們母子。撒拉對你說的，盡管依循，只為從以撒生的，才稱你的繼承。

13. 至於夏甲，會讓她的兒子成為一國，因為同是你的子孫。

14. 亞伯拉罕在第二天清早，拿了餅和一皮袋水，放在夏甲的肩頭，抱著兒子，打發她走，流落到別是巴的曠野。

15. 當皮袋裡的水用完，夏甲把兒子坐在灌木下。

16. 自己走到很遠，坐下，距離約有一箭之遠，她心想：我不忍目睹孩子就這樣死去。只能在遠處放聲大哭。

17. 孩子過了一段時間，放聱大哭。耶和華有訊息臨到夏甲，說：夏甲，你怎樣？不用怕，耶和聽到孩子發出的聲音。

18. 起來，怏去抱起孩子，我會讓他在將來成為大國。

19. 耶和華讓她看到遠處有一水源，打滿了 一皮袋，也給孩子喝。

20. 耶和華一直與這孩子同在，在曠野居住，續漸長大成人，是位射箭好手。

21. 他住的地方，在巴蘭曠野。母親從埃及地，帶來一女子與他結為夫妻。

這段對話在詮釋的時候要特別留意，因為對話中只要有一字之差，會令意思完全不同。

撒拉在談論老來生子這份喜悅，卻見一小孩，以實瑪利在笑。一小孩在旁邊聽罷然後笑，代表什麼？這笑的詮釋不在小孩，在成年人的看法。

撒拉對夏甲不滿，因為在13年來，因為不曾懷孕而受冷眼對待，早就心存不憤，因為大勢仍在，唯有忍氣吞聲。如今，有子是正統而出，在人的世界有各種規矩，正統的地位就不一樣，那是可以從此消除這13年來所受到的歧視，一朝翻身，那心情是何等釋放。當看到這小孩在笑，13年隱藏的不憤都會反映在這小孩的一笑之上。

更為重要的是誰去繼承？撒拉心中無底，於是提出一個方法，趕走二母子。亞伯拉罕如何解決？

這承諾是耶和華提出，耶和華自己了斷。祂提出解決的方法，是按之前的承諾：有子繼承亞伯拉罕，當中沒有詳細的解釋。如今有了，二位兒子，二種不同的祝福，有二個不同的人生方向：一個在信心上，成了信仰的延續；一個在人的本能上，成了滿足自己能力的表現上。

從此世界有了二種不同的發展方向：1. 是在宗教的層面；另一是在個人的能力才幹展現上。一個在心靈一個在肉身成就。一個在能力可以自控；一個放縱個人的自控。

在心靈上的祝福：12. 耶和華此時對亞伯拉罕說：不用擔心她們母子。撒拉對你說的，盡管依循，只為從以撒生的，才稱你的繼承。

這句說話的含義是在信心上表現，不是在能力，能力這事二人都有，只是在控制自我的慾念，有更大的能力作出自控。

在個人理想上：13. 至於夏甲，會讓她的兒子成為一國，因為同是你的子孫。意思是有能力去組成一國，這是個人慾望放大到極限。

如果將這應許放在今日以色列和伊朗的二國處境，站遠一點，用這段文字的描述去比對，不難發現，耶和華對二兄弟的承諾都實現。這處境不錯是耶和華的應許，後果是否要耶和華負責？
