1. But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2. And at dawn He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.
3. Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought to Him a woman who had been taken in adultery; and after setting her in the center,
4. They said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery.
5. And in the law, Moses commanded us that those who commit such a sin should be stoned. Therefore, what do You say?”
6. Now they said this to tempt Him, so that they might have cause to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger.
7. And as they continued to ask Him, He lifted Himself up and said to them, “Let the sinless one among you cast the first stone at her.”
8. And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9. But after hearing this, they were convicted each by his own conscience, and went out one by one, beginning with the older ones until the last. And Jesus was left alone, with the woman standing in the center.
10. And when Jesus lifted Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are your accusers? Did anyone condemn you?”
11. And she said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and sin no more.” (A Faithful Version)

2. 翌日黎明時份,耶穌回到聖殿,眾人到祂面前,他坐下,開始教導。

3. 文士和法利賽人,在這時刻,帶一個行淫被拿的婦人,到耶穌面前,安置在耶穌和聽眾的正中位置。

4. 對耶穌說:老師,這婦人在行淫之時被捉個正著。

5. 摩西的律例規定,犯這類過錯的人要用石頭處死。這事,你說怎辦?

6. 這些人是試圖用律法去測試耶穌,藉以指控他。耶穌此時彎下腰來,用手指在地上書寫。

7. 見耶穌沒有反應便繼續詢問。耶穌站起身來回應:誰覺得自己沒有犯過錯的,這人可以先拿石頭。

8. 說話完了,坐下,繼續在地上書寫。

9. 眾人聽了,每個人都被自己的良心說服,開始從老到少,一個一個地離去。只剩下耶穌和站在當中這位婦人。

10. 耶穌站起來,看到眾人離去,對這留下的婦人說:女子,指控妳的那些人呢?現在有誰指控妳?

11. 她回答:主啊,沒有。耶穌回應:我也不指控。走吧,不要再犯錯了。

這處在10-11節有個詞 condemn G2632 意思如下:to give judgment against, to judge: worthy of punishment:

a). to condemn and b). by one’s good example to render another’s wickedness the more evident and censurable

似乎當中的意思是犯事或犯錯更為合適,因為犯者是在待審的階段,有可能不是這位婦人的錯。約翰記錄時,說是在行淫,是她主動?還是她被迫?並沒有明明的指出事實的真相。這個詞的翻譯在這描述有一個重要的作用:指出耶穌沉默的緣因。

耶穌在一個對他不利的情況下,處理傳講神的道,就需要有更多的考慮,在時候未到,就避免早死。他在節期到了近尾段的時間,是避開了鋒頭火勢那個關鍵時刻,殺人的衝動淡化了,就去會堂論道,不在大街上,就是讓那些要謀害他的人有所避忌。

那些文士和法利賽人,他們要謀害耶穌的動機並不難理解,因為耶穌處處挑戰他們的權威。一次自稱是神來 (神差來不等如是神);一次說自己是天糧,食了有永恆的生命;再一次是說信他的說的道就有活水如江河從腹中湧流出來。更為難堪的是用摩西的律例挑戰他們的飯碗。

一個人若對另一個人有這樣的誤解,在這些人的面子和生存的空間而言,容忍那是極之危險的事,既有權力在手,為何不用以保萬全?

這回就拿了一個在行淫的婦人。就以單一的現象:行淫。

約翰從旁的觀察很細膩:耶穌默然不語在地上左劃右拉。這是耶穌在思考。許多人講道用這段經文,都下意識落入了圈套,認為這婦人犯罪。耶穌沒有種先存在人間的制度,什麼男專女卑,更沒有這女口些文士和法利賽人,書讀多了計仔也多,都是用來整人那樣無恥。耶穌也許在想:為什麼提摩西的律法?

緣因是耶穌多次用摩西的律法去表明他們不明白律法當中的精神。當日的猶太人如此,今日許多人也和這些文士和法利賽人這種思維是極其相似。

耶穌的處理手法很精彩,他說:誰沒有犯錯?

婦人不錯是在行淫時被拿。只是這事件不是一個人可以成的事,那麼那個男的,他不也是在行淫,怎麼現在只有女的沒有男的在?摩西的律法不會在只有單方面的情況下就判某個被拿的人論罪,而放縱同樣犯罪的人逍遙法外。由此看來,文士和法利賽人是利用法律,去鑽漏洞。這些人不是不知法律,而是利用法律,行私慾,做出對法律的不敬。今日放眼世界,有錢有權的,都合謀做這樣的事。耶穌為此被謀害,也是一般正直的人會遇到的事。人會學精,了,可是精靈有二種表達,你會選那種才重要。

耶穌展示一個原則:不要單看外表作判斷,人人都會犯錯,對犯錯的人不要去定罪。神不定人的罪,人不定與自己同等的人有罪,給這些人機會,是因為神給了我這樣的一個機會。
