15. And when Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “Joseph will perhaps hate us, and will certainly repay us all the evil which we did to him.”
16. And they sent a message to Joseph, saying, “Your father commanded before he died, saying,
17. ‘Thus shall you say to Joseph, “I beseech you now, forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin, for they did evil to you.” ‘ And please now forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father.” And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.
18. And his brothers also went and fell down before his face. And they said, “Behold, we are your servants.”
19. And Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God?
20. But as for you, you thought evil against me, but God meant it for good to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save a great many people alive.
21. And now do not fear. I will nourish you and your little ones.” And he comforted them and spoke to their hearts.
22. And Joseph lived in Egypt, he and his father’s house. And Joseph lived a hundred and ten years.
23. And Joseph saw Ephraim’s sons of the third generation. Also the sons of Machir the son of Manasseh, were brought up upon Joseph’s knees.
24. And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die. And God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land into the land which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”
25. And Joseph took an oath of the sons of Israel, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.”
26. So Joseph died, being a hundred and ten years old. And they embalmed him, and put him in a coffin in Egypt.
Machir or Makir (Hebrew: מָכִיר Māḵîr, “bartered”) was the name of two figures in the Hebrew Bible
- Machir was the son of Manasseh, grandson of Joseph, and father of Gilead in the Book of Numbers 26:29.
- According to the Books of Samuel, Machir son of Ammiel was the name of a descendant of Machir ben Manasseh who resided at Lo-debar. The text states that here he looked after Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, until David took over his care, and also looked after David himself when David became a fugitive.
來自AI:
1. Machir, Son of Manasseh
The primary biblical figure named Machir was the eldest (and possibly only) son of Manasseh, making him a grandson of Joseph. Born in Egypt to an Aramean concubine, his descendants, known as the Machirites, became a powerful and warlike clan.
- Conquest of Gilead: The Machirites are credited with capturing the region of Gilead east of the Jordan River from the Amorites. Consequently, Machir is often called the “father of Gilead,” and the land was allotted to his family by Moses.
- Military Reputation: Described as a “man of war,” the clan received the territories of Gilead and Bashan due to their martial prowess. In the Song of Deborah (Judges 5), the name “Machir” is used poetically to represent the entire tribe of Manasseh.
- Family: He was the father of Gilead, Peresh, and Sheresh, and had a daughter who married into the tribe of Judah. His wife was Maacah.
2. Machir, Son of Ammiel
A later descendant, also named Machir, was the son of Ammiel and a wealthy landowner residing in Lo-debar. He is noted for his loyalty and hospitality during turbulent times in Israel’s monarchy.
- Guardian of Mephibosheth: He sheltered and cared for Mephibosheth, the crippled son of Jonathan (King Saul’s son), until King David brought him to Jerusalem.
- Supporter of David: During King David’s flight from his son Absalom’s rebellion, this Machir provided essential supplies, including beds, basins, and food, to the king and his followers at Mahanaim.
The primary achievement attributed to Machir and his lineage is the conquest and settlement of Gilead. Unlike other tribes that received land solely by lot, Machir’s descendants actively seized their territory through military force, driving out established pagan nations. This action secured a strategic and fertile inheritance for the tribe of Manasseh.
