1. And the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,

2. “This month shall be to you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year to you.

3. Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them each man a lamb for a father’s house, a lamb for a house.

4. And if the household is too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbor next to his house take according to the number of the souls, each one, according to the eating of his mouth, you shall count concerning the lamb.

5. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You shall take it from the sheep or from the goats.

6. And you shall keep it up until the beginning of the fourteenth day of the same month. And the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it between the two evenings.

7. And they shall take of the blood and strike it on the two side posts and upon the upper doorpost of the houses in which they shall eat it.

8. And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roasted with fire, and unleavened bread. They shall eat it with bitter herbs.

9. Do not eat of it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but roasted with fire, its head with its legs, and with its inward parts.

10. And you shall not let any of it remain until the morning. And that which remains of it until the morning you shall burn with fire.

11. And this is the way you shall eat it: with your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. And you shall eat it in trepidation. It is the LORD’S Passover,

12. For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast. And I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.

13. And the blood shall be a sign to you upon the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you. And the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt.

1. 大能者在出埃及前曉諭摩西和亞倫：

2. 就以這個月為正月，即一年的開始。

3. 通諭以色列全民：就在這個月第十日，各人要在家中取一隻羊。

4. 若家中人數不足以吃掉一隻羊，就與鄰捨一起享用，以此計算一個月內要用多少隻羊。

5. 宰殺的羊，要沒有殘疾，足一歲的，可以是綿羊或山羊。

6. 等到本月十四日這天晚上與翌日(十五)的這天晚上，在這段時間內宰羊備用。

7. 宰殺時要留起羊血，將血塗在門兩邊的支柱並橫樑上，然後在屋中享用。

8. 當夜，就食用這新鮮的羊，肉用火烤，配無酵餅和苦菜。

9. 這羊不可生吃，不可煮熟，要火烤，是整頭連內臟一起去燒。

10. 到了清晨時份，若有食剩的，不可留，要用火燒滅掉。

11. 用餐時要注意的事項：腰間束帶，腳上穿鞋，手裡拿器具，存敬畏的心吃。大能者見血繞過我們不殺。

12. 今晚，會巡行整個埃及，讓一切頭生的，無論是人是牲畜，都擊殺。我要秉公行義，對埃及的領袖進行審判。因我才是真正的大能者。

13. 血在房屋上，是標記。當在埃及進行審判時，若房屋上有血記，就會越過，打擊不會臨到這屋。

The phrase  passed over  is a phrasal verb with multiple meanings depending on context:

• To be overlooked or bypassed: Most commonly used to describe being  ignored or excluded  from a selection process, such as not receiving a promotion despite being qualified (e.g., “She was passed over for the manager position”). 
• To ignore or disregard: To  pay no attention to  a topic, fault, or subject (e.g., “He decided to pass over the minor errors”). 
• To travel across or above: To move over  a physical area or object (e.g., “The plane passed over the city”). 
• To hand to someone: To  pass something  to a person further down a line. 
• To die: A euphemism for  ceasing to live  or passing away.

註：這經文記述是一個過程，這個過程在後來被記念時，才以節期命名，稱為逾越節。為此在v11節不跟隨一般中文聖經用節期稱之。

這個行動出現的原因，是因為法老一直沒有放下個人的自尊，以全國國民的福址作代價。這舉動就如今日的伊朗的神權領袖的自大想法，導致國民受無罔之災的情況，跟昔日的法老是一樣。

這種情況在信仰的歷史，只是出現在這一次，之前沒有，之後也沒有。之後之所以沒有，不是領袖自大不會出現，它依舊地出現，只是相信的人有 [越過] 的新方式，是耶穌在半空中，把信的人提上去。

註：那時，人子的兆頭要顯在天上，地上的萬族都要哀哭。他們要看見人子有能力，有大榮耀，駕著天上的雲降臨。（馬太24:30）。

當日的以色列人，是有所經歷，那是因為耶和華以大能者，選了摩西和亞倫，說服了當時的以色列人的族長，一起去承擔，與耶和華這位大能者，經歷一次信心之旅。這旅程為新生代的以色列人，延續舊約，成了新約。當晚，他們食完了晚餐，就開始新生命的里程。(水禮也許有這樣的用意)

記念這新約，是以大能者為其子民，雅各的後代，用千方百計，從人的專橫中解放出來。大能者用了一次，這樣極端手段，從人的虛罔自橫中解脫出來，成了新造的自由人，一切都變成新的了，新的立約，新的生命：自由人的寶貴之處。為此，出埃及那日起，是他們立為新年的開始。為了記念這日，又稱之為[逾越]，用一種生生世世的節日，讓後世的子孫去記念的日子，到2026或更遠的日子，以色列人的子孫萬代永留記念 (這新年不同一般的意義)。
