11. And it shall be, when the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, as He swore to you and to your fathers, and shall give it to you,

12. You shall set apart to the LORD all that opens the womb, and every firstborn that comes of any animal which you have; the males shall be the LORD’S.

13. And every firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb. And if you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. And all the firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem.

14. And it shall be when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What does this mean?’ you shall say to him, ‘The LORD brought us out of Egypt by the strength of His hand, from the house of bondage.

15. And it came to pass when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, the LORD killed all the firstborn of the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of animals. Therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that opens the womb, that are males. But all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’

16. And it shall be for a token upon your hand, and for frontlets between your eyes, for the LORD brought us out from Egypt by strength of His hand.”

17. And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines although that was near, for God said, “Lest the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt.”

18. But God led the people toward the way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up armed out of the land of Egypt.

19. And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had strictly sworn the children of Israel, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry my bones away from here with you.”

20. And they moved from Succoth and camped in Etham at the edge of the wilderness.

21. And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud to lead them in the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, to go by day and night.

22. He did not take away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night from before the people.

11. 大能者必然領你們進入迦南地，是祂曾應許你列祖所起的承諾。

12. 凡在你們和各樣動物當中，頭胎出生的，都將之分別獻與那大能者。

13. 至於驢方面，可以用羊去替代。若不願意贖，就拗斷牠的頸。若在人方面，頭胎是兒子，也可以用這方式代替。

14. 將來若有兒子問起這事，是什麼意思？可以對他說：是大能者用他的手，把我們從約束之地，拯救出來。

15. 時間不斷消逝，凡以色列人若是首生的是兒子，或是驢的頭生，都會用羊去代贖。這段時間，法老仍舊無意放行。大能者就擊殺埃及頭生的，無論是人是各類動物。

16. 你們要找出一樣物事去作為記念，是眼睛可以常常看見，讓人記得這是因大能者領我們從埃及出來的印記。

17. 法老容百姓離開那個時候，沒有讓以色列人經過移居過來的非利士人聚居地。 這是一條較短到迦南的路程，那是因為大能者不讓這些子民，從他們身上看到戰爭遺留的後果，這樣會產生返回埃及的念頭。

18. 大能者讓以色列人走紅海那邊，這是一條荒野路。當時的以色列人因為人多以列隊的方式離開埃及。

19. 摩西當時帶著約瑟的骸骨，因為在遺言中指明：耶和華讓以色列人，帶著他的骸骨，和他們一起離去。

20. 以色列人來到荒野之地，叫疏割一處安營，它屬以坦曠野範圍。

21. 大能者在日間用雲柱，夜間用火柱照明，引領以色列人前進。

22. 一路以來，日間必有雲柱，夜間必有火柱。

這是一段不尋常的日子，整個四十年都有大能者耶和華與以色列人同在，由摩西作領頭人，有亞倫和外父一起，還有好一些人的幫助，開始這漫長的旅程。他們臨離開前，有吩咐在要找一物作為長久的記念，此物要在手上，以至可以時時看見，就時刻在提醒，這是一件什麼物件？

有研究指出這物件的可能是以下發現的：寺廟朝聖者使用的 2000 年舊黏土代幣。代幣似乎吻合v16的二個要求 1.是手上；2.是常見。

以色列人離開是，摩西提示當時有二條路，一長一短。只是短的一條有非利士人在這地有過戰鬥的痕跡，就不宜讓以色列人經過時產生恐懼的心理，就放棄離開的打算。這個想法有很大可能是大能者提點。非利士人是強悍的民族，與以色列人有過許多交接。

非利士這詞：“Philistine” 在英語中是一個相當負面的一個詞。同義詞當中, 字根相同的詞有的 例如 “ignoramus” “primitive” “uncultured” “tasteless”等。 古代非利士人常常是以色列人有爭鬥, 他們無疑是個強悍的民族。然而, 正如考古發現所揭示的, 非利士人實際上是個有高度文化的國家, 它擁有極其熟練的工匠。雖然透過考古學對非利士人的了解仍然相對較少, 這些可以在發掘出土的文物中說明 (網頁中有圖揭示)。

在旅途的捨短取長，似乎是一種作為領袖要考量的策略。因為就算是大能者提示，領袖也有自己的選擇。摩西記述這事，就說明他聽從大能者的指引，免得法老放行，自己人卻不願意。

它是以色列人在旅程當中，如何認識這位先祖認識，他們卻不認識的大能者，耶和華是如何認他們透過生活去明白？

一個代贖的觀念，也從這裡用羔羊代替驢人的勞，用羔羊代人的生命。以色列人明白這羔羊是大能者是耶和華而不是之後的耶穌，是有他們的依據。當然耶穌清楚是被差來，是與耶和華一體，祂的對象是外邦人，當時的人不信。

今日似乎是有突破，這好比現代的信眾，比當時的以色列人更不明白。若認識，你相信，祂是位大能者，在你人生中，享福就不止是四十年，或許是更長的日子。透過生活中種種變化當中，大能者讓你體會和認識。若你明白，又願意讓相識的人多去了解，與他們分享你的經歷，明白人生有真正不同的出路，貧賤不能移富貴不能屈。
