28. The sons of Joseph according to their families: Manasseh and Ephraim.

29. The sons of Manasseh: of Machir, the family of the Machirites. And Machir begat Gilead; of Gilead, the family of the Gileadites;

30. These are the sons of Gilead: of Jeezer, the family of the Jeezerites; of Helek, the family of the Helekites.

31. And of Asriel, the family of the Asrielites; and of Shechem, the family of the Shechemites;

32. And of Shemida, the family of the Shemidaites; and of Hepher, the family of the Hepherites.

33. And Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters. And the names of the daughters of Zelophehad: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah—

34. These are the families of Manasseh, by their numbered ones, fifty-two thousand, seven hundred.

35. These are the sons of Ephraim according to their families: of Shuthelah, the family of the Shuthelahites; of Becher, the family of the Bachrites; of Tahan, the family of the Tahanites.

36. And these are the sons of Shuthelah: of Eran, the family of the Eranites;

37. These are the families of the sons of Ephraim by their numbered ones, thirty-two thousand, five hundred. These are the sons of Joseph according to their families.

38. The sons of Benjamin according to their families: of Bela, the family of the Belaites; of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites; of Ahiram, the family of the Ahiramites;

39. Of Shupham, the family of the Shuphamites; of Hupham, the family of the Huphamites;

40. And the sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman. Of Ard, the family of the Ardites; of Naaman, the family of the Naamites;

41. These are the sons of Benjamin according to their families, and their numbered ones, forty-five thousand, six hundred.

42. These are the sons of Dan according to their families: of Shuham, the families of the Shuhamites. These are the families of Dan according to their families.

43. All the families of the Shuhamites, by their numbered ones, sixty-four thousand, four hundred.

44. Of the sons of Asher according to their families: of Jimna, the family of the Jimnites; of Jesui, the family of the Jesuites; of Beriah, the family of the Berites.

45. Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites; of Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites.

46. And the name of the daughter of Asher was Serah.

47. These are the families of the sons of Asher by their numbered ones, fifty-three thousand, four hundred.

48. The sons of Naphtali according to their families: of Jahzeel, the family of the Jahzeelites; of Guni, the family of the Gunites;

49. Of Jezer, the family of the Jezerites; of Shillem, the family of the Shillemites.

50. These are the families of Naphtali according to their families, by their numbered ones, forty-five thousand, four hundred.

51. These were the numbered ones of the children of Israel, six hundred one thousand, seven hundred and thirty.

28. 約瑟家中有二位成員：瑪拿西和以法蓮。

29. 瑪拿西成員：瑪吉視為瑪吉族；瑪姬生基列，視為基列族。

30. 基列成員：伊以謝稱伊以謝族；希勒稱希勒族。

31. 亞斯列稱亞斯列族；示劍稱示劍族。

32. 示米大稱示米大族；希弗稱希弗族。

33. 希弗的兒子西羅非哈只有女兒，分別是：瑪拉、挪亞、曷拉、密迦、得撒。

34. 上列是瑪拿西家族成員，人數統計，共有五萬二千七百人。

44. 亞設的家族成員：音拿稱音拿族；亦施韋稱亦施韋族；比利亞稱比利亞族。

45. 比利亞的成員：希別稱希別族；瑪結稱瑪結族。

46. 亞設的女兒名叫西拉。

47. 以上是亞設家族成員的統計人數共五萬三千四百名。

48. 拿弗他利的成員計有：雅薛稱雅薛族；沽尼稱沽尼族；

49. 耶色稱耶色族；示冷稱示冷族。

50. 以上是拿弗他利家族成員的統計人數共四萬五千四百名。

51. 以色列人全族被數點的總人數，是六十萬一千七百三十名。

上述六個支派總人數為：二十九萬四千五百九十人。即是以色列總人數的一半，屬約瑟族系的成員被選為先頭部隊。

為什麼選他們？

他們都是雅各跟拉結和二位婢女辟拉和悉帕所生的六支派。拉結姊姊利亞所生的不在被選之列。當中顯然是與能力和操行有關。拉結和婢女所生的如下：

他是以色列先祖雅各的第五個兒子，由雅各之妻拉結的使女辟拉所生。但的名字意為「伸冤」或「審判」，但支派因此成為以色列十二支派之一。

亞設：

亞設支派的先祖是亞設（Asher），他是《聖經》中以色列先祖雅各（Jacob）的第八個兒子，生母為雅各的妾悉帕（Leah’s maidservant Zilpah）。亞設的名字在希伯來文中意為「有福」，其後裔組成了以色列十二支派之一的亞設支派，主要分佈在迦南北部沿海的肥沃地區。

拿弗他利：

拿弗他利支派的祖先是拿弗他利（Naphtali），他是雅各（以色列）的第六個兒子，由拉結的使女辟拉所生。

根據《創世記》記載，拉結因未能生育而將辟拉給雅各為妾，當辟拉生下拿弗他利時，拉結感謝耶和華「幫助她打了勝仗」，因此為兒子取名為「拿弗他利」，意思是「我相爭」或「我的爭鬥」。拿弗他利因此成為以色列十二支派之一拿弗他利支派的祖先。

雅各共有四位妻妾，分別是他的兩位表妹利亞和拉結，以及她們的兩名侍女辟拉和悉帕。

•利亞：拉班的大女兒，雅各的第一位妻子。雅各起初愛拉結，但被拉班欺騙，在婚禮當晚娶了利亞。她為雅各生了六個兒子（流便、西緬、利未、猶大、以薩迦、西布倫）和一個女兒（底拿）。

•拉結：拉班的小女兒，雅各的第二位妻子及最愛之妻。雅各為娶她服侍拉班七年，後又被要求再服侍七年。她為雅各生了約瑟和便雅憫，並在生便雅憫時難產去世。

•辟拉：拉結的侍女，被給予雅各為妾。她為雅各生了但和拿弗他利兩個兒子。

•悉帕：利亞的侍女，被給予雅各為妾。她為雅各生了迦得和亞設兩個兒子。

這四位女性所生的十二個兒子成為了以色列十二支派的祖先。

其他三位，是約瑟之後：瑪拿西、以法蓮，及雅各的拉仔便雅憫。

Benjamin was not Joseph’s son, but rather his younger full brother. Both were sons of the patriarch Jacob and his beloved wife Rachel.

• Relationship: Benjamin was the twelfth and youngest son of Jacob, born after Joseph was sold into slavery.
• Significance: As Joseph’s only full brother, Benjamin held a special place in Joseph’s heart, which Joseph demonstrated by testing his brothers’ character and showing Benjamin unusual favor in Egypt.
• Legacy: Benjamin became the progenitor of the Tribe of Benjamin, one of the twelve tribes of Israel.

由此觀之，耶和華與雅和立的約，當中仍有所區分。例如利亞，拉結的姊姊本不是雅各要娶的，似乎就不計算，從她而出的六支派，似乎也是使整個出埃及事上，產生諸多挑戰的源起。他們似乎是能力不足，私慾又大之徒，不宜於行軍掠地的適當選擇。

這些決定，似乎耶和華沒有參與，是摩西對耶和華的認識，有耶和華對人的原則和精意在，作出了合乎耶和華心意的決定。摩西作為耶和華揀選的領袖，有點識英雄重英雄，惺惺相惜的意味。
